At the time of its construction in 2005, Kentish Flats, some 10km off Whitstable, was the largest such project in the UK, with thirty 3MW turbines. Over its design lifetime of 20 years, the installation will save an estimated 4.4 million tonnes of CO2 compared with fossil fuels.
Working from an operation and maintenance facility in Whitstable Harbour, North Sea Logistics' purpose-built catamaran, "Celtic Storm", and 8m RIB, "Kentish Flyer", provide a full range of personnel and equipment transfer services in connection with ongoing inspection and maintenance schedules.
