Built by Alnmaritec at Alnwick in Northumberland, she is the ninth in a line of specialist craft built by the company over recent years to support and service the burgeoning wind farm industry. Launched at Blyth, she underwent successful sea trials before beginning operations for NSL in the North Sea.
'Aaryan' is an aluminium asymmetric catamaran, 18m long and 6.2m wide, with a displacement of around 22 tonnes. She is fitted with twin 715bhp electronically controlled Caterpillar C18 diesel engines driving conventional four bladed 800mm diameter propellers through Twin Disc MGX 5135 Quick Shift gearboxes, giving her an impressive top speed of over 25 knots. But speed is only half the story: she is also fitted with powerful twin electric bow thrusters which give her outstanding manoeuvrability.
She carries a complement of 2 crew and 12 passengers in comfort within the large deckhouse which houses a galley, WC, wet space and storage areas. An impressive array of navigation and safety equipment includes a satellite 'man-finder' tracking system and 3-D sea bed profiling, as well as radar, AIS, GPS, Chart plotter and Satcom system.
North Sea Logistics is one of the UK's leading operators of wind farm support boats and Managing Director Dave Armstrong said "I am delighted with the performance of the new boat. She has proved herself on trials to be extremely capable in some very demanding conditions and she will be a real asset to our North Sea operations. She is a credit to the workforce at Alnmaritec and I am confident that she will be prove to be one of the best vessels in the industry". For Alnmaritec, Managing Director Chris Millman said "I am extremely happy with the way the boat has turned out. The wind farm market is an important one for us and we are determined to stay in the vanguard of the development of these boats."
