£3 million vote of confidence

The world's leading economies may be entering the stormiest waters for decades, and stock markets sinking like a stone, but amid the gloom, the offshore wind-farm business is booming.

As a measure of faith in the future of the industry, and of confidence in their own leading role within it, North Sea Logistics has recently placed an order for three new specialist craft, at a cost of over £1 million each.

Commissioned from Alnmaritec, at Alnwick in Northumberland, the new vesses are all 20m aluminium asymmetric catamarans of the "Aaryan" class (named after Aaron and Ryan, the two sons of NSL's Managing Director, Dave Armstrong).

The Aaryan was developed from the "Wave Commander" class, nominated as one of the Significant Small ships of the Year 2007 by the Royal Institute of Naval Architects. With twin 715bhp diesels and powerful electric bow thrusters, these vessels combine speed with exceptional manoeuvrability - the ideal combination for work in the often challenging environment of offshore wind farms. In an equally challenging economic climate, they also demonstrate that North Sea Logistics is prepared to invest with confidence.
